OIKOS research finds that all hunting management models in European countries, although very different from each other, face several obstacles, most of which emerge to a greater or lesser extent from the growing decoupling between rural reality and the urban world. The model of Mediterranean countries, for instance, must contend with territorial and regulatory fragmentation and heterogeneity, which in many cases generates greater social conflict. Conversely, the Nordic model is the most monolithic, but also the one that best integrates hunting, science and governance and captures the social and cultural value of hunting activities.
