Caring for Our Common Home: Ecology in the Catholic Church
Fecha: 09 Mayo 2025
Authors: Jorge Alarcón, Raúl López Baelo, Toni Timoner
This report examines the evolution of ecological thought in the Catholic Church from its biblical roots to the election of the new Pope Leo XIV. Based on five doctrinal principles — the goodness of creation, the universal destination of goods, responsible stewardship, integral ecology, and ecological sin —, the document traces how Christian tradition has progressively integrated care for the environment as a central moral and social dimension. The text highlights the projection of the new pontificate from an environmental perspective and proposes that Catholic thought can offer solid foundations for an ecological ethic compatible with values of responsibility, prudence, and intergenerational justice.
A reflection on ecological thought in Catholic doctrine and its relevance for a conservative and humanist approach to the environment.
