OIKOS publishes a guide to understanding the key issues, implications, and significance of the upcoming COP29 in Azerbaijan from November 11 to 22. With a focus on updating Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in 2025, this COP will mark a milestone on the road to commitments that will define climate policy until 2035. The main challenge will lie in establishing the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) to help developing countries adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change. A controversial topic will be the regulation of carbon markets under Article 6.4 of the Paris Agreement to prevent greenwashing practices.
