Environmentalism Summer School with Reformismo 21

Fecha: 02 Julio 2024

It was the first Summer School on environmentalism held by Reformismo21 for highly talented young people interested in climate and environmental policy. The goal is to bring them closer to this reality through talks and discussions with experts across various topics to promote a sound and sensible debate on the environment and climate change.

Over three intense days, we brought together 18 young people selected for their merits and strong commitment to improving society, to build with them a space for reflection on environmentalism from an open, pragmatic, and realistic perspective. The young participants were selected through a rigorous selection process in which they demonstrated their analytical and communication skills, as well as their interest and commitment to learning, disseminating, and participating in the major issues of our country in climate and environmental policy.

On the morning of Friday, July 5th, the 18 young participants had the opportunity to share a conversation with Alberto Núñez Feijóo, president of the Partido Popular, in the unique setting of the Monte Cabezón redwood natural monument, a protected natural space in Cantabria.

After visiting the Oyambre Natural Park, the young people had the opportunity to understand how the ecological transition can represent an economic growth opportunity for Spain, and specifically they were able to:

  1. Understand the ecological transition from a European perspective with Miguel Arias Cañete.
  2. Discuss technological change with Javier Santacruz Cano.
  3. Debate the role and potential of clean energy with José Abad.
  4. Explore how to fight marine pollution with Ignacio Martí.
  5. Discover the importance of an orderly transition with Nemesio Fernández-Cuesta.
  6. Debunk myths around nuclear energy with Pau Aragón Gabriel.
  7. Dive into the challenges of water governance with Sofía Tirado Sarti.
  8. Soak up knowledge about desalination with Miguel Ángel Sanz.

Between July 4 and 7, the Reformismo 21 Summer School on Environmentalism took place, whose curriculum we designed together with the rest of the collaborating entities: Reformismo21, Legados, and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
