La Vanguardia: OIKOS calculates that “up to 4 million homes” could be decarbonised by prioritizing measures that reduce CO2 the most

La Vanguardia has published coverage on the report by OIKOS, a think tank specializing in sustainability, analyzing the decarbonisation potential of buildings in Spain. According to the study, up to four million homes could be decarbonised if priority is given to measures that reduce CO₂ emissions the most, rather than focusing exclusively on reducing energy consumption.
The report points out that 2.4 million homes could benefit from insulation improvements, 1.2 million through the implementation of aerothermal systems, and around 300,000 with district heating networks, enabling annual savings of 3.9 million tonnes of CO₂. These figures almost triple the Government's goals for 2030.
OIKOS also highlights that over 55% of Spain's housing stock was built before 1980, when energy efficiency regulations did not yet exist, reinforcing the need for urgent measures to decarbonise buildings.
