The government's plan foresees 5.5 million electric cars in Spain by 2030, but current figures show slow progress. In 2023, only 1.3% of the car fleet was electric. The lack of charging infrastructure is a key obstacle: Spain has 2 charging points per 10 km of road, compared to 5.1 in Portugal. In addition, the high price of electric vehicles hinders adoption. To achieve electrification, improving the charging network and lowering costs are essential. There are also concerns over competition from Chinese cars and the need to strengthen European industry.

We are far from the target, not only due to the few charging points, but because we need a fast, public, and sufficiently dense charging network.
