Presentation of the report "Green, competitive and secure? Outlook for the Spanish Energy Transition"

On December 11, 2023, OIKOS officially presented the results of the report at El Ateneo de Madrid, in an event where research developed by José Abad and Manuel Fernández Losa for the Elcano Royal Institute on energy transition was also presented.
The opening of the event was led by Nemesio Fernández-Cuesta, former Secretary of State for Energy and member of the OIKOS Advisory Board.
Next, the authors José Abad and Manuel Jesús Fernández Losa presented the report "The economic case for the energy transition" published by the Elcano Royal Institute. A testimony to the economic sense behind the energy transition, regardless of the climate and environmental reasons that justify it.
Afterwards, Luis Quiroga and Antonio De Juan Fernandez presented the report "Outlook for the energy transition in Spain" co-authored by OIKOS and AFRY, and finally the 4 authors, moderated by Maria Sicilia, exchanged perspectives during a panel discussion with questions from the audience.
The energy transition is economically profitable thanks to the competitiveness of solar PV and onshore wind, without intervention of subsidies or carbon prices, in addition to constituting a strategic opportunity for Spain. But we need to invest in flexibility and storage, with a realistic and pragmatic energy policy that balances the cost-emissions-security of supply trilemma.
