Presentation of the report "Decarbonization of buildings"

On Tuesday, March 12, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., OIKOS presented its new report "Decarbonizing buildings: how to achieve triple economic, social, and climate profitability" at the Ateneo de Madrid. The session was opened by Cristina González Vives, representing the Ateneo, followed by the institutional opening by Joan Mesquida, Housing spokesperson for the People's Party (Partido Popular). Next, Luis Quiroga, co-founder of OIKOS and lead author of the report, presented the main conclusions of the document, which analyzes the challenges and opportunities of decarbonizing the building stock in Spain.
The event continued with a moderated debate around the report's findings, featuring prominent industry experts: Marc Eaves Fernández (Head of Homeowners' Associations at BBVA), Leyre Echevarría (ESG Director at CBRE), Mauricio Yrivarren (senior associate at Climate Strategy & Partners), and Raquel Paule (General Director of Fundación Renovables). The session concluded with an open Q&A session with the audience.
In a context where buildings are responsible for 30% of energy consumption and 25% of GHG emissions in Spain, the report proposes solutions such as energy renovation, electrification with heat pumps, or the use of heating networks, with an estimated decarbonization potential of 4 million homes.
A roadmap to transform the building stock in Spain, combining energy efficiency, social equity, and emissions reduction in the fight against climate change.
