On Thursday, April 10, 2025, the Network for the Study of Contemporary Monarchies (REMCO) and OIKOS held the presentation of the study "The Green Monarchy: The role of monarchies in defending the environment and the ecological transition" at the Library of the Ateneo de Madrid. The report offers an unprecedented analysis of the role played by constitutional monarchies in sustainability and the fight against climate change.
The event featured Aurora García Mateache, journalist and Royal House correspondent at Artículo14; Francisco Beltrán, Professor of Political Science at the Autonomous University of Madrid and Director of REMCO; Raúl López Baelo, lawyer, Law Professor, and co-author of the study; and Toni Timoner, co-founder of OIKOS and also co-author of the report.
During the event, the main findings of the study were discussed, evaluating the environmental performance of nine constitutional monarchies in Europe and Japan. Particular emphasis was placed on the impact of the symbolic leadership of these institutions and their ability to foster social and political consensus in favor of a fair and effective ecological transition.
